Convert an oven recipe into a practical starting temperature and cooking time for your air fryer.
Enter the oven temperature and cooking time from a recipe to get a practical air fryer starting point.
Oven instructions
1. Enter the original recipe settings
Air fryers vary by model, basket size and how full they are. This converter is intended for normal oven recipes with cooking times from 5 minutes to 3 hours.
Air fryer starting point
2. Try these settings
Your suggested air fryer temperature and cooking time will appear here.
This is a starting conversion, not a doneness guarantee. Check food early, follow your air fryer’s instructions and use appropriate doneness or internal-temperature checks where needed.
PRACTICAL RECIPE ADAPTATION
Move From Oven to Air Fryer Without Guessing
Air fryers circulate hot air efficiently, so an oven recipe often needs a different cooking time and sometimes a lower temperature. The converter gives you a sensible place to start rather than pretending there is one exact conversion for every appliance and every food.
CONVENTIONAL OVEN
Lower the Heat and Time
The converter starts by reducing a conventional oven temperature by about 15 degrees Celsius (°C) / 25 degrees Fahrenheit (°F) and reducing the cooking time by about 20%.
CONVECTION OVEN
The Starting Point Is Closer
A convection oven already circulates hot air, so the converter keeps the starting temperature close to the original and reduces the cooking time by about 15%.
What the Converter Gives You
01 · TEMPERATURE
Air Fryer Starting Temperature
A practical temperature to use when you first adapt the recipe to an air fryer.
02 · TIME
Estimated Cooking Time
The original recipe time is shortened to reflect the faster cooking environment.
03 · CHECK
When to Start Checking
A deliberately earlier checkpoint gives you time to inspect the food before the estimated cooking time is reached.

WHY THE RESULT IS A STARTING POINT
Air Fryers Do Not All Cook the Same Way
Basket size, air circulation, wattage, preheating and how much food you load into the appliance can all change the cooking time.
The same recipe may also behave differently depending on the size and thickness of the food, whether it is fresh or frozen and whether the basket is crowded.
That is why the converter includes an earlier checking time rather than presenting the estimated finish time as a guarantee.
Check the Food, Not Just the Clock
- Start checking before the estimated finish time
- Turn, shake or rearrange food where appropriate
- Avoid overcrowding the basket
- Use visual cues as well as cooking time
- Check safe internal temperatures where relevant
Oven to Air Fryer Converter FAQs
Do I always need to lower the temperature for an air fryer?
Not necessarily. Conventional oven recipes generally benefit from a lower starting temperature, while convection oven recipes are already designed around circulating hot air. The converter treats the two oven types differently for that reason.
Why does the converter shorten the cooking time?
Air fryers move hot air rapidly around a relatively small cooking chamber. Many foods therefore cook sooner than they would in a full-size oven.
What does “start checking after” mean?
It is an earlier checkpoint before the estimated cooking time. Check the color, texture and doneness at that point and continue cooking if needed.
Can I convert very long oven recipes?
The converter is intended for recipes with normal oven cooking times rather than extremely long slow-cooking methods. It therefore limits the original cooking time to three hours.
Does this guarantee that food will be cooked safely?
No. The result is a recipe-conversion starting point, not a food-safety or doneness guarantee. Follow the instructions for your appliance and check appropriate internal temperatures for foods where this matters.
Can I use the converter for baking?
It can provide a starting point, but cakes, breads and other baked goods can be more sensitive to temperature, pan size and airflow than foods such as vegetables or smaller savory items. Check the result early and expect some recipes to need additional adjustment.
HOW WE CALCULATE IT
Simple Rules, Clearly Explained
Like the other SinOrSlim tools, the Oven to Air Fryer Converter uses transparent practical rules rather than hiding the assumptions behind the result.
