Scale a whole ingredient list and, if you want, convert recognized measurements to US or metric units in the same step.
Whole recipe
1. Paste your ingredients
Put the quantity at the start of each ingredient line. Section headings and notes are kept unchanged.
This converts units of the same kind. It does not guess ingredient density, so a cup of flour will not automatically become grams.

HOW IT WORKS
Adapt a Whole Ingredient List in One Step
Paste the ingredient list from a recipe, tell the Recipe Adapter how many servings it makes now and how many you want, and it scales recognized quantities across the whole list.
You can keep the recipe’s original measurements or convert compatible measurements to US or metric units at the same time.
The adapter is deliberately cautious: if it cannot confidently interpret a line, it keeps that line rather than guessing.
A Quick Example
Original recipe: 4 servings
2 US cups flour
1 1/2 US cups milk
2 eggs
2 tablespoons (tbsp) butter
6 servings →
3 US cups flour
2 1/4 US cups milk
3 eggs
3 tablespoons (tbsp) butter
Three Ways to Adapt a Recipe
SCALE
Change the Servings
Scale recognized quantities throughout the ingredient list using the same serving ratio.
KEEP
Keep the Original Units
Scale the quantities while leaving the recipe’s measurement system unchanged.
CONVERT
Switch to US or Metric
Convert recognized weight and volume units to a more convenient measurement system.
MEASUREMENT CONVERSION
Conversion Stays Within the Same Kind of Measurement
Weight can be converted to another weight unit, and volume can be converted to another volume unit. The adapter does not assume an ingredient density.
That means a pound (lb) can become grams (g), and a US cup can become milliliters (ml), but a US cup of flour will not automatically become grams. Use the Cooking Converter when you need an ingredient-aware weight-to-volume conversion.
Examples
1 pound (lb) → 453.6 grams (g)
8 ounces (oz) → 226.8 grams (g)
1 US cup → 236.6 milliliters (ml)
1 tablespoon (tbsp) → 14.8 milliliters (ml)
What the Recipe Adapter Deliberately Leaves Alone
Scaling ingredient quantities is useful, but not every part of a recipe should be changed automatically.
- Section headings and notes are kept unchanged.
- Lines that cannot be interpreted confidently are preserved rather than rewritten.
- Cooking times and oven temperatures are not scaled automatically.
- Ingredient substitutions are not guessed.
- Weight-to-volume conversions are not attempted without ingredient-specific information.
For the Best Results When Pasting a Recipe
01 · QUANTITY FIRST
Start Each Ingredient With Its Amount
For example: “2 US cups flour” rather than “flour, 2 US cups”.
02 · ONE PER LINE
Keep Ingredients on Separate Lines
A simple ingredient-list format gives the parser the clearest structure to work with.
03 · NOTES ARE FINE
Keep Useful Preparation Notes
Descriptions such as “finely chopped” or section headings can remain in the pasted list.
Recipe Adapter FAQs
Can I paste a whole recipe into the Recipe Adapter?
Paste the ingredient list rather than the full cooking method. The adapter works line by line through ingredient quantities and keeps headings or notes it does not need to change.
What happens to fractions when I change the servings?
The adapter scales recognized quantities using the serving ratio and presents practical quantities where possible. Unusual results can still occur when a recipe is scaled by an awkward factor, so use normal cooking judgment when measuring very small amounts.
Can it convert a recipe from US measurements to metric?
Yes, for recognized compatible units. Weight is converted to weight and volume to volume. The adapter does not convert a volume such as a US cup of flour directly into grams because that requires ingredient-specific density information.
Will it change cooking time or oven temperature?
No. Scaling the amount of food can affect cooking time, but the relationship is not reliably proportional. Keep the original instructions as a starting point and check the food as it cooks.
What happens if the adapter does not recognize an ingredient line?
The line is kept rather than rewritten using a guess. You can then adjust that line manually or use one of the individual SinOrSlim tools if needed.
Can I turn the adapted recipe into a shopping list?
Yes. After adapting the ingredient list, you can send it to the Shopping List Generator and continue building or checking off your list there.
Are the ingredients I paste saved by SinOrSlim?
No. The current Recipe Adapter performs its work in your browser. The ingredient list and serving quantities you enter are not submitted to SinOrSlim for calculation or stored in a SinOrSlim recipe database.
